NBCF's mission is to provide women with help and hope through education, early detection, and support services. NBCF provides free mammograms to women across the United States through its network of hospitals.
No one mentioned what to do when you have dense breast tissue. With the grace of God, a doctor who I met for the first time decided to refer me for additional screening - Abus ultrasound imaging. I never heard of this machine and didn’t understand the importance of it. It is this machine that detected the abnormality. If you get a mammogram ask if you had dense breast tissue, if you do - demand for additional screening, it’s in your "breast interest".
You don't know what you are capable of doing until you're fighting for your life. Cherish every day and don't sweat the small stuff.
My first critical lesson was learning to advocate for myself. I think so many of us have a tendency to 'go along' with what the healthcare professionals say, and not to question or challenge what does not resonate with us. And it may be uncomfortable at first, but it gets easier the more we do it. This includes clarifying questions without apology, asking for what we need at any given moment.
I live by my motto: Listen to your body, now. Another thing is to stay positive, good energy is necessary for survival. When you are going through something, it’s always best to talk to your faith filled family.
